Edinburgh University V 4

Borders Fjordhus II 2

EAST LADIES DIVISION ONE

Fjordhus II were beaten in this hard-fought match at a sunny Meadowbank stadium in Edinburgh.

The university’s fifth team opened the scoring before the Borders raised their game and after some good pressure, a short corner was converted by Katie Francis to equalise.

The students hit back instantly with another break to take the lead again. Some good play from the Fjordhus midfield put the Borders team back into a good attacking position and a quick ball into the circle was finished off by Yvonne Jack as she slotted the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs.

Some umpire decisions went against the visitors in the second half and the students had a lot more possession which they converted despite many brave saves by Gwyn Bradley.

Fjordhus squandered several opportunities from short corners throughout the half and 10 minutes from time University put the game beyond doubt with their fourth goal.

Despite the disappointing result on Saturday, 24 hours later the Borders team came from 3-1 down at half-time to beat Watsonians thirds 5-3.
