There was plenty of action at the Cowdenbeath Racewall on a dry Saturday night to keep the fans happy as the season begins to draw to a close.
In the formula IIs the new World Champion Kelvyn Marshall paid his first visit to the Racewall since he won the title at Hednesford but had to take a back seat as Gordon Moodie dominated the racing.
Daniel Scrimgeour won the final of the white/yellow challenge series whilst Brian Hogg Jnr won the Grand National and in doing so won his first race. Brian was using his brother John’s car and we all wonder if he is going to give it back!
In the race for the National Points race Chris Burgoyne suffered crash damage whilst George MacMillan Jnr was down at Skegness where he outscored Burgoyne to increase the gap to points.
In the saloons Danny Colliver was joined by fellow long distance traveller Deane Mayes whilst Graeme Shevill was having his first meeting since his suspension expired.
There were four visitors from south of the border in the MiccroF2s where Lewis Burgoyne won two of the races.
The formula II action was fast with plenty of close racing and one or two shocks along the way which left a few drivers sidelined. Local interest centred around Brian Hogg Jnr (Berwick).
The first race of the night was the final of the white/yellow challenge series which saw the drivers line up in their grades but with the top scores to the front. Hogg Jnr led the field away but was forced wide and dropped to third. In the end third is where he finished.
In heat one Hogg Jnr finished in third but was caught on an oil slick on the slow down lap and crashed out. Brian wasn’t back out until the Grand National and when the race started he went straight into the lead. Despite the gap closing over the closing stages Hogg Jnr held on to record his first win.
This Saturday the BriSCA formula IIs are contesting their RS Motorsport sponsored Dash for the Cash with a healthy field of cars having qualified for the race whilst the saloons have their white/yellow challenge final to contest. The National Hot Rods are racing for World Championship qualifying points and they will be ably backed up by the ministox.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 6.00pm as usual.
