GALA overwhelmed Hawick & Wilton, bowling the visitors out for 57, as they recorded their first Border League win of the season.

The Teries had slumped to four for four after an opening burst from Kris Mein that picked up three early wickets, while confused running saw Neil Storey dismissed.

Ali Weir and Allan Moffat put together the first decent partnership of the innings, taking the score to 33, before Weir was bowled by Graeme Ormiston’s first delivery.

Ormiston went on to claim three more victims, while Scott Paterson returned, after an initial four-maiden spell, to claim two wickets as only Moffat stood firm, finishing on 26 not out.

Gala’s reply was steady and unspectacular, taking 18.2 overs to chase down their target, losing Ormiston who guided a short, wide ball from Lewis Stewart straight to Doug Bryant at backward point for eight, and Josh Irvine, trapped lbw by Greg Baillie for 10. David Boland finished on 28 not out and Andrew McMenemy on 4 not out.
