THE VILLAGERS enjoyed a trip to the seaside at the weekend as the tennis club’s first team extended their unbeaten run in the Winter League to three games with victory over Berwick.
On a warm, sunny day with little wind to speak of, it was perfect conditions for tennis, and in the women’s doubles Toni Lemmon and Lynn Bruce romped to double-bagel victory over their opponents.
In the men’s doubles rubber Lewis Armstrong and Adam Drummond overcame a solid Berwick pair 6-2, 6-3.
Both mixed doubles ties went the way of St Boswells too, with Lemmon and Armstrong winning 6-3, 6-0 and Bruce and Drummond coming through 7-6, 6-1.
The second team had a much tougher time of things against Innerleithen, despite also securing a 4-0 win.
Matt Tile and Simon Blair scraped through thanks to a deciding match tiebreak, as did Tile and his wife Lucy in their mixed match. However, Blair and Linda Geddes enjoyed a more comfortable straight-set win over their opponents, as had the women in their match.
Both teams face tough matches this Sunday, with the firsts away to Melrose I and the seconds at home to Peebles.
