SURE-SHOT Souters have been targeting success at Castletown at the NSRA Scottish meeting.
Local rifle club members competed against almost 200 target shooters from all over the UK and, despite the blustery conditions, the team of Bill Vaughan, Keith Nixon, Daniel Burton, Ian Burton and team manager Jim MacDougal shot well, bagging a number of trophies and accolades.
Daniel Burton (15) won his first trophy at a national meeting with a top place in one of the 100yd competitions, along with a number of third places in the other competitions (50m and 100yd).
Vaughan also enjoyed a good week which culminated in the Earl Haig competition (50m and 100yd) where he came a very respectable seventh.
Taking part in the main competitions Nixon was placed in the top third of his group, beating some of the top shots on the final day despite the dreadful windy conditions.
Ian Burton shot steadily all week and came second in his grouping overall with a number of first places in individual competitions and top three placings in others, culminating in promotion to the national A class.
For Ian, the highlight of the week was being selected to shoot against England in the Home Countries International – his first Scotland cap.
