LAST week’s Borders Pool League singles qualifiers saw shocks galore with six Second Division players and 10 from the top flight making it through to the last 16.
Although struggling in the league, all the Waverley A team made it through, along with three from Reivers A and three Fleece B players from Division Two.
The big names include Scott Simpson and Scott Bowers (Waverley A) along with Kieran Riddell (Reivers A) and Jason Lyall (High Level A), while potential threats include Rob Shiel, John Jardine and Steven Bell (Waverley A), Callum Riddell (Niki’s) and Reivers duo Martin Wallace and Robert Headspeath.
Dark horses Ian Hope (Waverley B), Ian Blackwood (Reivers B), along with Fleece B trio of Alan Marshall, Shaun Murray and Fred Bell Jnr, all hope to break through in their first season.
Putting a fly in the ointment could be Jason Bowers (High Level B) who has made giant strides this season in playing for the Borders and taking top scalps on the regional tour.
