THE cream rose to the top when the Borders World Qualifier was played at Reivers Sportsbar in Galashiels.
In the preliminaries, Stan Thomson, Kieran Riddell, Stuart Harkness, Jason Bowers and Kev Mackay all played well with some lovely shot-making and good safety play.
However, the closing stages were left to the big four, with contrasting styles as Scott Simpson outplayed Ian McCombe in the first semi-final.
In the other semi, Craig Reid took an early lead, only to miss vital shots and succumbed to Scott Bowers, who ground it out as usual to set up another all-Scotts final.
Bowers was well on top early on only for Simpson to respond with some ridiculous pots to level at four-all.
The final frame saw a see-saw battle with Simpson finally potting the last black from an acute angle to edge a brilliant final.
Bowers added: “Scott junior deserves his place at the Worlds after just missing out on the Scottish squad, although I should have beaten him again!”
The second Border Tour event is this Sunday at Reivers, start time 1pm.
