GORDON wheelchair athlete Samantha Kinghorn notched three gold medals at the National Junior Athletics Championships held at Coventry on Sunday.
More than 250 athletes showcased their talent at the event, organised by Disability Sport Events (DSE), a programme managed by the English Federation of Disability Sport. The championships brought together athletes with a wide range of impairments at the University of Warwick stadium in a full track and field programme.
Samantha, 16, already holds the Scottish junior record for 100m, 200m and 400m, and her latest achievements have added British Champion status to her already impressive sporting CV. Competing in the T08 section, she recorded times of 19.4 seconds, 34.2 seconds and one minute, 8.1 seconds in each respective event.
The Earlston High School pupil was only 14 when she broke her back as she helped her parents Neil and Elaine clear snow at her home at Middlethird Farm.
She was airlifted to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow, where doctors told her she would never walk again.
