FRUSTRATION was the name of the game on Saturday as the CF Sports League Cup tie against Gala and Langholm at Meigle Park was abandoned two overs into Langholm innings with the match evenly poised.
The Castleholm men asked the home side to bat first and were rewarded with early wickets as five of the top six batsmen failed to reach double figures and Gala were reduced to 56 for 5. Only Graeme Ormiston stood firm in the top order and the home side also needed good contributions from Duncan Millar and Andy Lawrie to help set a competitive total.
Ormiston eventually went for 54 when he played on off David Little after he and Millar put on 61 for the sixth wicket. Millar went for 35 with the score on 133 and Lawrie joined in the fun with a quickfire 26.
With seven overs left, the Braw Lads looked like they could push on towards 200, but Jamie Ashton-Smith took three wickets as the scoring rate reduced rapidly and the Meigle Park men were bowled out in the 38th over.
Langholm were only able to face two overs of their innings before the rain came, but Scott Paterson still had time to strike, removing Gregor Park with his second ball.
