GALASHIELS swimmers certainly made a splash at the 2010 Borders Relay Championships held belatedly at the town’s pool, having been postponed from last November due to the snow.

Seven swimming clubs took part – Duns, Eyemouth, Galashiels, Hawick, Kelso, Peebles and Teviotdale – all competing for winners’ shields in the three age-group categories as well as the overall trophy.

The results were as follows: 10 and under – Eyemouth and Galashiels tied for first and will share the shield; 11-13 – Galashiels won the shield; 14 and over – Eyemouth won the shield. Overall, Borders Relay Champions 2010 were Galashiels, winning by a margin of just two points over Eyemouth.

Well done to all the swimmers and grateful thanks go to the Borders Region Swimming Committee and volunteers who made the day possible, and to Borders Sports and Leisure Trust for the use of the pool.
