The final day of play of the Aitken Turnbull Border League at Under-13 level took place at the Gytes in Peebles at the weekend.
Six teams entered the league, with all teams playing each other during four play days hosted by each of the Borders junior netball clubs.
Three teams gradually emerged as potential winners, with Hawick A, Earlston A and Peebles all hungry for the league title and dominating the scorelines.
A 9-9 draw between Hawick A and Earlston A on the penultimate play day allowed Peebles to creep ahead on points going into the final day of play.
However, Peebles and Hawick A were scheduled for a head-to-head in the final match, and a win by the Teries could have turned the tables and secured league victory.
Peebles were playing at home with a huge gallery of supporters. Perhaps this explains why they produced a tremendous performance in their final match to beat their close rivals by 42-2 to take the league title.
With Hawick A and Earlston A now equal on points, the placings went to goal difference. Despite Hawick A being 60 goals to the good on goal difference going into the final day, a high scoring win by Earlston A of 33-0 over Berwickshire, and Hawick’s loss to Peebles allowed Earlston to snatch silver on goal difference.
John Mackenzie from Aikten Turnbull Architects presented the trophy and medals.
The Under-15 league is ongoing with semi-finals to be played in January.
Peebles’ winning team: Sophie Walpole (capt), Jess Woodhouse (vice-capt), Lilly Carvalho, Lucy Gray, Anna McGorum, Eilidh Naysmith, Kirsten Rodwell, Abbey Scrimger and Rhianna Sterricks.
