Outstanding Borders in clean sweep at play-offs

SCOTTISH U17 DISTRICT
PLAY-OFFS

TWELVE Scottish U17 districts took the court on Sunday for play-offs to determine which top six will form this year’s Performance Tier.

Borders played outstandingly last season to win the place and hoped to begin this year’s campaign strongly. The new squad of 11 players comprises 10 Peebles players and one from Team Berwickshire (Kara White), selected at recent district trials.

On the day, Borders could do no wrong. Superb movement in the shooting D from Susanne Krabbendam (GS) in particular, along with top class shooting from Jenny Hudson (GA), ensured that breaks from Borders translated into the scoreline.

Flora Gillies (C) was confident in centre court, with Borders using the speed of Neve McLean (WA) to drive through the opposition’s defence repeatedly. Lauren Tait (GD) showed why she was selected recently for Scotland U17s, making the most of her tall frame, with many balanced interceptions creating repeated turnovers.

Borders’ wins were convincing, resulting in top ranking across all sections by the end of the day, and securing a place in the top tier for the coming season.

Borders: Hannah MacDonald (capt.), Jenny Hudson (vice-capt.), Susanne Krabbendam, Nikki Pettitt, Neve McLean, Flora Gillies, Kara White, Kitty Lambton, Lauren Tait, Mhairi Jackson, Hannah Crick.
