Outnumbered seconds find it tough

Watsonians III 2

Borders Fjordhus IIs 1

EAST LADIES FIRST DIVISION

TRAVELLING with only 10 players, Borders Fjordhus II had a tough match against Watsonians thirds.

It was a frantic end-to-end game and Borders were up against it from start to finish.

The visitors started well and after 20 minutes went a goal up through Maddie Riddell, but Watsonians capitalised on a quick breakaway and levelled the score.

Fjordhus continued to play the better hockey, but failed to put the ball past the competent city keeper.

After half-time, Watsonians upped their game and scored again from a penalty corner.

Borders pressed on with a spirited performance which came to a head in an incident that forced Evonne Jack to enjoy a three-minute breather with a Watsonians player after a clash.

Great goalkeeping from Kirsty Sharky kept the Borders in the game and they continued to press with some great runs from midfield through Sara Robson. Player of the match, Alexa Knox, worked tirelessly in defence.

This was a fair result for a hard-contested match.

Borders Fjordhus II: K. Sharky, S. Robson, E. Jack, M. Riddell, K. Francis, L. Holmes, B. Smith, N. Wheelens, Z. Higgins, A. Knox.
