Gala beat Grange 3rds by 67 runs
EAST DIVISION THREE
GRAEME Ormiston starred with bat and ball as Gala comfortably defeated Grange 3rds.
Given the state of the pitch early in the week, the Gala ground staff did a great job getting it in such good condition for the East Division Three game, but early on the pitch still lacked the usual pace and bounce and Grange had no hesitation in asking Gala to bat first.
They made an early breakthrough when David Boland was cleaned up by Khatri with score on 17, with captain Stephen Halls being bowled with the score on 49.
Neil Crooks joined Ormiston and both steadily took the score to 99 before Crooks was bowled through the gate for 24, but this brought Duncan Millar to the crease and the two Gala youngsters took control of the innings, increasing the tempo as both passed the half centuries, for Millar, his maiden 1st XI 50.
Millar finally went stumped in the penultimate over after a partnership of 104, but Ormiston proved the rock of the home innings, finishing on 80 not out as Gala ended on 213 for 4.
In reply, Scott Paterson made an early breakthrough when Reed edged to Halls in the gulley, but the unorthodox opener Ul-Hamid took the game to the home bowling.
The introduction of Graeme Ormiston brought two quick wickets before Hoffmann joined Ul-Hamid and both continued to take the attack to the Gala bowlers before the latter swung across the line once too often and was trapped lbw to give Ormiston his third wicket and cap a fine all-round performance.
Only Grange skipper Metcalfe showed any resistance with 27 not out as the visitors were dismissed for 146, Crooks also taking three wickets.
