HAVING had to reschedule their annual Civic Week Tennis Tournament due to atrocious weather conditions, Kelso Orchard Tennis Club had a ball before the ball on Thursday evening.

With a total turnout of 36, both adults and juniors, the popular competition was played as a round-robin, with each adult/junior couple playing three rounds. In the final, the four highest scorers on the day were defending champion Jean de Bolle and Archie Robertson (runner-up previously) against the club’s assistant coach Lee Brown and Angus Millar, with Brown and Millar winning the overall tournament. Brown has now won both as a senior and junior and Millar twice as a junior.

In the consolation final, Jacquie Welsh and Peter Brunton played against Elizabeth Raitt and Lucy Porteous, with Welsh and Brunton triumphing in the end.

The trophies were presented by Graeme White who donated them on behalf of the Kelso Laddies’ Association three years ago.

A special presentation by the club was made by youth worker/coach Lesley Thomas to Special Olympian Porteous for her medal- winning successes in the World Games in Athens.
