EUROPEAN champion and double Olympic judo player, Sarah Clark, was the guest of honour at a recent masterclass training session held by Focus Judo Club in Galashiels.
She was invited to the club by coach Stuart Gordon. She agreed readily and the Borders club found themselves with one of the country’s highest profile players stepping on to their mats.
The day consisted of three separate sessions, for under-eights, under-13s and seniors, with more than 100 judokas attending from the Borders and as far away as Dundee. Clark managed to captivate each class with her coaching abilities, from the youngest player to the most senior coach.
Tam Hardie, Focus Judo’s head coach, said this had been a very proud moment and a great honour.
“The event has had a big effect on everyone involved, especially the younger players who have seen Sarah as being a very strong role model, as well as a world class Judo player,” he told TheSouthern.
“We would like to wish her all the best and look forward to seeing her on our screens in the summer.”
Some of the coaches are planning to watch the Olympic competition live.
