Edinburgh Uni XI2
Reivers’ men started well and forced some good early pressure on their East District League Division Two visitors last weekend.
During the first quarter the split was very much 50/50 with nothing between the teams. As the half went on, however, the youth and speed of the University team played an ever more important part as they put increasing pressure on the home team.
Reivers found it difficult to get decent passes away, rarely troubling the Uni half, let alone their defence. Inevitably, the ball possession paid off for the visitors and they scored in the latter half of the first period.
After the break, the Reivers began to put together some decent interplay and one foray in to the opponents’ half resulted in a penalty corner which Scott Girvan whipped past the keeper.
While the Reivers did have a few more attacks than in the first period, with Baird McIlwraith and Euan Nicoll standing out, normal service resumed for the Uni who managed to score again late on in the match.
Thanks go to Mel Ross and Lindsay Miller for umpiring. A photograph from the match is on page 71.
Currently in third position, the Reivers look forward to their double header this weekend when results could leave them anywhere from top of the league to seventh.
