A BORDERS athlete was rubbing shoulders with the best of British only days before the Olympic bandwagon rolled into London.

Peebles long jumper Faye Nicholson travelled to Wales last week to take part in an invitation international event held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

She was part of the Scotland Under-20s team and came second with a jump of 5.61m.

The Scotland contingent included Lynsey Sharp, preparing for the London Olympics, while there were also many international Olympians in attendance. Star names competing in the senior events included Kim Collins, former World Champion at 100m, who chatted to the Scottish athletes and posed for a photo with Faye.

Berwick middle distance man Guy Learmonth was also in action in Cardiff and won his international men’s 800m in 1 minute, 48.9 seconds.
