National victories for hockey trio

Three Borders hockey players have been hitting the heights after being selected for the Scotland Under-16s summer Home Nations tour squad.

Rhona Gowans, Maris Cawthorn and Iona Kellett returned from Wrexham in Wales last week, having helped the Scots to impressive 2-1 and 5-0 victories over the home nation.

While midfielder Maris, 15, from Ashkirk, played in the squad for the World Youth Cup in the Hague last year, the Welsh trip provided a first cap for 16-year-old forward Kellett, from Selkirk and Gowans, 15, who lives in Galashiels. All three play for Fjordhus Reivers.
