Langholm virtually made sure of another season in Division One of the Eden Valley League with an eight-wicket victory at Scotby last Saturday to secure the full eight points, writes John Smith.
A late start due to the weather saw the match reduced to 28 overs each, and Scotby batted first, but only managed to make a total of 74 for six wickets.
Scotby lost Jefferson (2) in the first over when caught by wicketkeeper Gregor Masterton off Duncan Elliott.
J. Swann (21) batted well and hit 20 off one over from Graham Park, but was then caught by Jason Hall off a Steve Johnstone delivery, and the same bowler then dismissed D. Swann lbw for a duck to make it 34 for 3.
After 16 overs the home side had only reached 53. Opener Farrah (14) was finally caught by Park off Andrew Paisley. Schofield was caught by Andrew Bell off Pool for 13 and he also dismissed Rigg when caught by Masterton (8), and the overs ended with Scotby on 74 for 6.
In the Langholm bowling, Johnstone had 2 wickets for 4 runs from 7 overs, Jack Pool 2 for 1 from 4 and Elliott 1 for 7 from 4.
Langholm passed the required total in 19 overs to finish on 75 for 2. Elliott was top scorer on 25 and Graham Park was on 13 not out, with captain Chris Stewart retiring injured on 11.
Langholm lost Bell (4) bowled by Rigg, but Park and Elliott (25) carried the score to 43 before the latter was caught by J. Swann off Teasdale. Park and Stewart increased the tally to 66 before Stewart had to go off with an elbow knock. Langholm secured victory from a wide, with Park remaining at the wicket on 13 and Masterton still looking to score.
