Melrose end campaign with a grand finale at Kelso’s expense

MELROSE claimed their best win of the season with a nine-wicket defeat of Kelso.

On a remarkably dry and firm wicket at Huntlyburn, Melrose won the toss and asked Kelso to bat first and soon had their visitors in trouble. Indeed, the second delivery of Rory Murray’s first over saw the middle stump of Kelso opener Tom Galbraith removed. Worse was to follow for Kelso as the second over saw Mark Henderson run out before Ally Prabakher had Thomas Grindell bowled and Jason Gibson trapped lbw with successive balls.

At this point, Kelso were reeling at 2 for 4 from two overs. Tim Wightman was joined by Dougie Wilson and the pair took the score to 27 before Wightman was caught by Prabakher off the bowling of Sharief Hosny for 15.

Hosny and Josh Loftus combined to bowl seven maiden overs on the bounce to stall the Kelso innings further. Loftus then struck three times in quick succession to rip through Kelso’s lower order as the visitors ended up 57 all out from 44 overs.

The only blip for Melrose’s bowlers was that extras finished as joint top scorer with 15. However, their attack did manage to bowl 15 maiden overs in the innings.

In reply, the hosts lost opener Colin Green trapped lbw to Gibson, but Prabakher (34 not out) and Barry Scott (14 not out) quickly settled in to knock off the runs in the 15th over.
