Me and my sport: Week 29 – Patrick Swan

Age: 24

HomeTown: Chirnside

Sport: Athletics

Position/Discipline: 400m

Club: City of Edinburgh

Coach: Stuart Hogg

Best moment in sport so far: Selection for Great Britain at the European Under-23 Championships.

Aims for the next 12 months: Selection for GB again. Successfully defend my Scottish 400m title.

How does the ASP help you most: Physio support. Access to Putton Mill gym in Duns when required.

Who in sport most inspires you: Roger Federer and Muhammad Ali. They are just real winners through and through.

FavOURITE TV sporting moment of all time: James McFadden goal for Scotland in the 1-0 win v France at the Parc des Princes in the Euro 2008 Qualifiers.

Best thing about your sport: I know the more I put in, the more I’ll get out.

... but dislike: Some of the poor banter from my training partners, especially Alan Scott.

If not in this sport, would like to compete in: Maybe one day go back and play football. I played for Chirnside up to Under-16 level.

Usual pre-competition meal: Toast and honey or chicken and rice (if racing in the evening).

Food dislikes: I eat anything!

Best motivational song or track: Drake’s album on the way to training gets me ready.

... but turn off/leave the room to: Cher Lloyd – the only swagger she’s jagging is her own.

Competition superstition or odd routine: None, I try to be ready for any eventuality where routines may not be possible.

When not competing or training I like to: Go out with my mates, spend time with my family, go on holiday to warmer climates.
