Have your say

Age: 12

Home Town: Eyemouth

Sport: Badminton

Discipline: Singles, doubles and mixed doubles

Club/Team: Duns and Under-15 national squad

Coaches: Pete Hardie, Julie Hogg and Dan Travers

Best moment in sport so far: Winning the Under-13s Midlands tournament and being runner-up in the Yonex Under-13s East of Scotland event.

Aims for the next 12 months: To improve my bleep test results, work hard during training and to continue to improve my tournament results.

How does the ASP help you most: Through ASP I have been getting specialised training from Dan Travers, which is helping me improve my technical skills. They also provide physio and access to the local gym where I can carry out my strength and conditioning programme.

Who in sport most inspires you: Lee Chong Wei. He is the current world number one in badminton. I regularly watch DVDs of him playing. He makes all the shots look so easy. Through time I hope to be able to move around a court as quickly as him. He’s awesome.

FavOURITE TV sporting moment of all time: Watching Sebastian Vettel drive to victory in the 2011 Formula One Championship.

Best thing about your sport: Winning. I have also made lots of new friends during my training sessions at Edinburgh and Glasgow.

... but dislike: Always having to travel and doing my homework in the car. I also hate early starts on tournament days – 6.30am at the weekend!

If not in this sport, would like to compete in: Rugby. I used to play football and rugby, but had to give them up due to my badminton commitments.

Usual pre-competition meal: I always try to have a pasta meal before competitions. I love spinach and ricotta cannelloni. Before I play a game I have fresh orange juice, carrots and a banana.

Food dislikes: I hate mushrooms. If my mum has made bolognaise I will pick out all the mushrooms. Yuk!

Best motivational song or track: Yeah by Usher. It really gets me fired up for a game.

... but turn off/leave the room to: Anything that JLS or Jedward sing or do.

Competition superstition or odd routine: I don’t really have any. I just get on with it.

When not competing or training I like to: Play my guitar and chill out watching television and films.
