Age: 16.

Home Town: Duns.

Sport: Badminton.

Discipline: Singles, doubles and mixed.

Club/Team: Duns Badminton Club/Under-19 national squad.

Coaches: Karen Stalker and Pete Hardy.

Best moment in sport so far: Winning the singles at Under-15 nationals or getting bronze medal in UK Schools Games 2011 in the mixed doubles and team event.

Aims for the next 12 months: Play well in as many tournaments as possible and beat all my records in the fitness testing.

How does the ASP help you most: It gives me the opportunity to train at the gym twice a week, which has had a great impact on my performance. It also gives me access to physio whenever I need it, which is really handy for when I need a quick recovery during competition season.

Who in sport most inspires you: Andy Murray, because he’s a total legend. I admire the way he’s matured in the game and he handles the pressures of expectation. He WILL win a grand slam!

FavOURITE sporting moment of all time: Watching Rafael Nadal win his epic 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (8-10), 9-7 battle against Roger Federer in the 2008 Wimbledon final.

Best thing about your sport: Winning! And getting to meet new people, and having a laugh with the other players.

... but dislike: Losing! And having to get up before 8am, or eat a banana for energy.

If not in this sport, would like to compete in: Hockey. I gave it up because I was getting dubious ball-shaped injuries on my legs and I had to keep pretending that it was my dog jumping up on me so my badminton coaches wouldn’t suspect I was doing anything dangerous. Also tennis which I started off competing in first, but now just play for fun.

Usual pre-competition meal: Chicken Kiev or homemade spaghetti bolognaise. Also, I’m addicted to Petits Filous and plain muffins, so I have them before I train or play.

Food dislikes: Fish, bananas, anything spicy or hot, most vegetables and salad. Actually, there are more foods that I dislike than I like – I’m pretty picky.

Best motivational song or track: Anything by Paramore, Muse or Bombay Bicycle Club.

... but turn off/leave the room to: Justin Beiber or any lovey-dovey ballads if it’s just before competing.

Competition superstition or odd routine: I always have to have the same juice bottle with me when I’m on court, I never serve first in a doubles match, I always have the same odd laces in my badminton shoes (one leopard print the other red), I always have seven clips in my hair, I always try and win the last point in a warm-up and I usually try to have my lucky combination of bracelets on. Despite all this, I’m not actually superstitious, I just do the same things over and over because it’s routine.

When not competing or training I like to: Play piano, other sports, go out with friends. I’ll always be doing something, I can’t ever sit still.
