FORTY-SEVEN competitors from as young as eight years old took part in the first Eyemouth Aquathlon event (swim and run) held at Borders Sport and Leisure Trust’s Eyemouth Leisure Centre on Saturday.

Held in sunny but windy conditions, the various age groups competed in a swim and run, with the distance determined by their age group.

Category winners: Eight years (50m swim/1km run) – Alison Mitchell; nine–10 years (150m swim/2km run) – Sam MacInnes (girls), Elliot Duff (boys); 11–12 years (200m swim/2km run) – Iona Miller (girls), Tobie Douglas (boys); 13–14 years (400m swim/3km run) – Kerry Greig (girls), Danny Milton (boys); 15–16 years (400m swim/3km run) – Zara Milton (girls), no boy in category; Adult seniors (750m swim/5km run) – Laura Carbonell (females), Chris Holmes (males).

The next aquathlon will be held at Galashiels Swimming Pool on Sunday, September 18.
