The official opening of Lauder’s new golf clubhouse takes place tonight.

The club has benefited from an £83,600 grant from sportscotland for the extension and upgrade, which will be unveiled in front of current and past members, who are invited to the ceremony.

A drinks reception will be held at 7pm with the opening taking place at 7.30pm. Meanwhile, last month saw the club’s championship winners decided, 100 years after it was first played, with Craig Lumsden emerging the winner.

The B Championship was a real struggle, with Billy Hunter defeating Micky Dunne at the 40th hole.

Pictured above are, from left, Lynn Gray (ladies’ captain), Dot Robinson (ladies’ silver runner-up) Billy Hunter, (B champion), Gwen Dun (ladies’ champion), Craig Lumsden (club champion), Wendy Paterson (ladies’ B champion); Dave McPherson (C champion), Elaine Brotherstone, (ladies’ B runner-up) and Archie Anderson (gents’ captain).

Club round-up

St Ronan’s announce that their president is the one and only Malcolm Ross, taking over from the equally one and definitely only Allan Watt, who will still be about as disciplinarian, consultant, and whatever else is required.

Richard Smith is retained as secretary and Peter Wright has the key to the cash box.

Lammermuir CC moves towards the coming season with a slight increase in membership and a fractional lowering of the average age.

Angus Macmillan is the administrative genius behind much of the modernisation of the club as it eases towards the current century.

The club had a reasonable Agrii Border League season last time round, with losing semi-finalists in the Dickinson being the high point.

On September 19, the BIRC AGM will be held in the clubroom under the supervision of president Peter Bowyer.

There will also be presentations to Jim Keddie and Norma Wright for their dedication, with Jim’s 40 years of service surely some sort of record in the annals of Scottish ice rink history administration.
