Langholm beat close rivals at home

Langholm secured a winning six-point draw against local rivals Longtown on a very soft wicket at the Castleholm.

In a very close match, Langholm finished the allotted 40 overs on 120 for 5 wickets. In reply, the visitors just failed to overhaul Langholm, finishing on 119 for 9.

The Muckle Toon men lost the toss and were sent in to bat and found runs hard to get on the slow wicket.

With only 28 after 11 overs, Steven Johnstone (5) was caught by Booker off Jeffrey.

After 22 overs, captain Chris Stewart (7) was out to the same attacking combination. Duncan Elliott had a good knock of 52 before being caught by Dave Steele off Booker.

Chris Tait and Jason Hall were both out for a duck and Langholm were now 71 for 5 with just nine overs left. Graham Park (35) and Davie Gordon (17) were still at the wicket when the overs ended with Langholm on 120.

Longtown lost their third wicket with the score 55 after 20 overs, and when reaching 89 for 3 they looked to be cruising.

But some tight home bowling saw the visitors need two runs to win off the last ball, but a run-out by keeper Tait saw Langholm secure six points.

In the home bowling Elliott top scored with 3 for 26, with Johnstone 2 for 19.
