The national finals of the Henderson Bishop Trophy will be held at Border Ice Rink from February 23-26 when 80 lady curlers, representing 15 ice rinks from all over Scotland, will descend.

This event is the culmination of keenly-contested qualifying playdowns which take place annually at each rink and is one of the most sought after and inclusive competitions for ladies organised by the Royal Caledonian Curling Club, dating back to 1929.

As well as four full days of curling, there are also organised social events each evening and the local organising committee, chaired by BIR ladies president, Nina Clancy, have been hard at work ensuring everyone has accommodation and is fed and watered.

The committee and ice rink are indebted to sponsors, including BIR’s first ice sponsor, Cullen Kilshaw, without whom this type of sporting event could not take place.

As well as the main competition on the ice, Scottish Borders Council will host a reception in the Cross Keys Hotel on the Monday evening, with a supper and race night, hosted by the BIR organising committee, assisted by Jim Cullen, the following day.

A dinner will take place on the Wednesday when the draw for the latter stages of the competition are made. The semi-finals and finals are on the Thursday, when winner’s prizes will be supplied by AlameFraser.co.uk.

Border Ice Rink, for the first time, will be represented by two teams – Border One (pictured) consists of Rhona Fleming, Gwen Prentice (skip), Liz Martin and Louise Seed, while Border Two is Fiona Hodge (skip), Helen Forbes, Anne MacAuley and Maggie Wright.

Spectators are encouraged to go along to the ice rink where cafe and bar facilities will be available throughout the event. Further information can be found on the dedicated web page at www.bordericerink.co.uk.
