JEDBURGH’S Kirstin Maxwell scored her first win in a world ranking orienteering event in Slovenia last weekend.
Kirstin, who is still a junior and was running up in the women’s elite class, finished 1 minute and 30 seconds ahead of the Slovenian athlete in second place.
This result will be a great boost to Kirstin ahead of moving up to senior level next year.
The world ranking event was part of the Cerkno Cup which consisted of races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, all on technically and physically difficult terrain high in the Slovenian Alps.
Second and third-placed finishes in the other two events gave Kirstin a comfortable win the women’s elite class in the competition a whole.
Kirstin’s father, Ian Maxwell, also travelled across to Slovenia for the weekend, finishing in third place in the men’s over-50 category . He also took a class win the sprint race on the Saturday evening.
