THE South Schools indoor tournament took place at the Queen’s Centre, Galashiels with six schools taking part.

Topping section one, Galashiels Academy beat Berwickshire 2-1 and Hawick 3-1, with Berwickshire runners-up, defeating Hawick 4-1.

In section two, Kelso dominated both their games, winning 7-0 against Peebles, their goals being scored by Sarah Dagg, Claire Hill, Emily Stewart, Chloe Purves, Kirsty Veitch and Lucy Ramsay (2), and 7-3 against Selkirk, with a hat-trick from Lucy Ramsay, two from Emily Stewart and one apiece from Gina Ramsay and Chloe Gillard.

Selkirk were runners-up in this group, defeating Peebles 3-1, and met Gala in the first semi-final. The Academy proved to be too strong, winning the tie 4-0.

The other semi-final saw Kelso beat Berwickshire 4-2, with the goals coming from Lucy Ramsay (2), Gina Ramsay and Chloe Purves.

The third-placed teams then played off before the final and in a closely-contested game, Peebles defeated Hawick 2-1.

In the final, Gala worked hard to keep Kelso out, with some fine saves from their goalkeeper, but the Tweedsiders proved too strong with hat-tricks from both Lucy Ramsay and Emily Stewart and two goals from Claire Hill to retain the title they won last year.
