Six Kelso ASC swimmers have just returned from a gruelling six days competing in the Aberdeen Aquatics Centre at the Scottish National Age Groups Championships (SNAGs).

More than 900 athletes were in action, including Commonwealth Games gold medallists Hannah Miley and Ross Murdoch, and a great job was done by all the Kelso swimmers, with 15 finals being reached by members Ryan Brown, Lizi Clelland, Amy Richardson and Erika Coupek, with nine top-five placings within those finals.

Ryan Brown, 17, showed a great return to form with a fantastic swim in the 200m butterfly to take gold and the title of national champion with a Youth Commonwealth Games Qualifying standard of two minutes, 3.87 seconds. He also finished in the top five in all his other events.

Amy Richardson, 14, continued her superb run in the 200m fly with a terrific bronze medal, and a fourth-place finish in the 100m fly.

Competing in her first Scottish Age Group event, Erika Coupek, 13, had a heavy schedule of 11 events in which she managed to make it into a few finals and bag herself a bronze in the 100m freestyle.

Lizi Clelland, 16, made finals in all her events, finishing in the top five in the 200m freestyle, while Catherine Soeder executed her swims well to finish just off her personal bests.

Special mention also goes to the girls’ relay team of Lizi Clelland, Amy Richardson, Catherine Soeder and Jenny Adams, who had great swims in the 4x200m freestyle relay, to finish seventh, and improved their placing in the 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m medley relays to finish in the top 20.
