KELSO travelled to Stirling on Sunday to play in the Scottish Under-18 Cup finals day.
The first semi-final was against Forfarshire, in which the Tweedsiders batted first to post an excellent total of 140 for 2.
Partnerships between Tom Grindell and Mark Henderson got Kelso off to a great start, with Grindell falling in the 40s.
Thomas Roberts came to the crease next and batted well with Henderson who scored an excellent 53 not out.
Kelso bowled well and with the run rate creeping up, the young Borderers won comfortably in the end, by 24 runs.
Kelso faced Ayr in the final, and batted first again to score 120 for 9 with Sam Culkin in the runs.
At this point the rain came to delay the Ayr reply, but when they eventually got going the west coast side batted well to put the Kelso team under pressure.
Having to bowl with a wet ball, the Kelso bowlers could find no answer and Ayr ran out deserved winners by six wickets.
It was a superb achievement for the young Kelso team who can try again next year, knowing only two of this year’s squad will be too old to play in this age group next season.
