Kelso edge students in thrilling match

Edinburgh Uni 8s 4

Kelso Ladies 3s 5

Kelso Ladies third’s continued their excellent start to the season with a closely-fought victory away to Edinburgh University on Saturday.

The late afternoon start didn’t appear to suit either team and the match started in rather subdued fashion, with neither team really taking the initiative.

It was Edinburgh Uni who took the lead midway through the first half, but Kelso immediately raised their game and were soon equal after a powerful strike from Megan Brennan following a short corner.

The Tweedsiders continued to up their game and three further goals quickly followed from Katie Scott, Lucy Murray and Katie Brown, giving them a 4-1 interval lead.

Following a stern lecture at the break, the students made an excellent comeback in the second half and drew level after three goals from their right-side striker.

However, in a tense finale, Kelso managed to rally once again and, after winning a couple of short corners, Lucy Murray hit home the winning goal with two minutes remaining, delighting the faithful travelling support and their coach, Mary Weir.
