Kelso Ladies 1

George Heriot’s II 1

KELSO Ladies hosted last weekend’s match at Tweedbank and they were under no illusion that it was going to be a tough task against a young George Heriot’s side.

The game began at an extremely fast pace with the visiting side testing the Kelso defence very early on. Only a few minutes into the half, with some quick passing, the visitors were able to take their chance and score to take the lead.

The Tweedsiders restarted and went all out to prove that they were not going to be taken down easily and they soon settled into a great game. They showed some outstanding skill both individually and as a team which allowed them to win a number of penalty corners.

Unfortunately, the home side could not find a way through the strong Heriot’s defence and the visiting goalkeeper made a number of excellent saves.

Finally their persistence paid off and Kelso brought the game back to level terms.

The goal came from a great ball played by Lynsey Laing to fellow striker Joanna Laing, who executed a first-class reverse-stick shot that had the keeper well and truly beaten, finding the bottom corner of the goal.

The second half was a similar story with Heriot’s penetrating, but not converting. Kelso carried on playing a great game but found themselves becoming slightly frustrated as they also failed to find the elusive match winner.

Kelso squad: Lynn Blaikie, Tracie Paterson, Kim Carruthers, Dawn Paxton, Nicola Mackay, Louise Denham, Jane Lofthouse, Emma Pate, Natasha McLaren, Gillian Thomson, Sara Green, Lynsey Laing, Joanna Laing, Suzanne Fleming and Carin Logan.
