Earlston Bowling Club’s Denise Kellett has been crowned Champion of Champions for the Borders following a fine run of victories.
Having won her home club’s Ladies’ Championship last season, Kellett qualified for this year’s competition and came through with flying colours, beating the over-50 -times-capped Joyce Dickey from Hawick to go through to the semi-final stages.
Kellett continued her good form by beating Alison Murray (Gala Waverley) 21-12 before seeing off the challenge of Jedburgh BC’s Laura Lightbody 21-13 in the final. A finance assistant with Scottish Borders Council, Kellett has enjoyed her first season playing in the Border Ladies squad and qualified for the Scottish (Regional) Finals in the mixed pairs, along with her brother Neil.
Back playing at her own club last weekend, Kellett and her younger sibling were denied a win in the Aussie Pairs by her partner Stephen Greer and the in-form Andrew Black. Greer also lifted the 7-Up trophy the previous week, beating George A Cessford in the final.
