WITH a new sponsor attracting an excellent entry, the junior White Hill and senior Black Hill Race went ahead in perfect, if muddy, running conditions.

In the junior White Hill Race, three Borders clubs took the honours with Thomas Otton (Gala Harriers), James Mercer (Teviotdale Harriers) and Joe Agnew (Lauderdale Limpers) in the first three places respectively with Joe Arres (Gala Harriers) first girl.

In the senior event, 68 runners fought a keenly-contested event with Darin Dougal (Moorfoot Runners), Fergus Johnston (Gala Harriers) and Mike McGovern (Moorfoot) in the first three places respectively. Ronnie Gallagher (fourth) and Jonathan Sharpe (32nd) claimed the local prizes from Lauderdale Limpers and JogEarlston.

Thanks must go to Ross Allan from Milestone Garden and Leisure and Graeme Sutherland (Lauderdale Limpers) and David Young (JogEarlston) for organising an excellent event, supported by members of both clubs, and the Earlston Civic Week committee, with several hill running virgins enjoying their first race.
