SCOTTISH Borders triathletes hosted their first junior duathlon at the Bowhill estate last Saturday.
The event consisted of two age groups – 8-12 and 13-16 – running and biking off-road through the beautiful grounds of the Duke of Buccleuch’s Selkirk estate.
The club tries to encourage juniors into triathlon and has for several years offered a junior aquathon – but this was the first venture into duathlon. Seventeen competitors turned up on the calm, dry Saturday morning and competition was fierce.
In the younger age group, first male was William Brodie, nine, while Lois Young, 12, was leading female.
In the older age section, first male was Jack Amos, 13, with Mia Elliot, 13, heading the females home.
This was a new competition for many and one that the club hopes to promote next year.
Organisers are grateful to the Bowhill estate for allowing them the use of the grounds, and a big thanks to Paul McGreal, of Durtytri, for the use of his electronic timing.
