PEEBLES NETBALL is celebrating the success of two of its senior players who were both selected for the Scotland Under-19 long squad at the weekend.
Goal attack Jenny Hudson cut her teeth at international level last season, playing for Scotland in the Under-17 European championships in Malta. With backing from the Borders Athlete Support Programme, she has gone from strength to strength and was recently signed up for Glasgow Saltires to gain further competitive experience in women’s leagues.
Goal defender Lauren Tait has previously been overlooked for international selection. Having made the Under-17 Scotland long squad last season, the 6ft tall West Lintoner was controversially cut at the final stage. She subsequently went on to play a major role in Peebles victories at Scottish Schools and Scottish Youth Cup championships. Lauren successfully trialed for Edinburgh’s Caledonia women’s club, again to broaden her experience.
Both players will train with the national age group squad, in addition to Peebles Netball and their respective adult clubs, with the aim of making the final cut to play in the European Championships in April.
Joining both players at international level will be ex-Peebles Netball player Jo Pettitt, now at Strathclyde University and also a member of Glasgow Saltires, who has been named in the long squad for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Elsewhere, the fledgling Under-17 Border District Netball squad have made it into this season’s Elite Performance Tier League, following a dominant display in Netball Scotland’s District play-offs.
