Earlston horsewoman Catherine Watson won the British Eventing 100 at Eden Valley Horse Trials at Penrith in Cumbria at the weekend.
Riding the Jack Clark-owned Stonehatch, she finished on a dressage score of 27 with a double clear in the show jumping and cross country.
Mr Clark, the recently retired managing director of John Swans, bought the horse as a point-to-pointer and won at Alnwick first time out. Unfortunately Stonehatch was troubled by injury, breaking a vertabrae out hunting and having a wind operation, and he was retired to Watson’s yard in Earlston in mid-2010.
Watson has slowly brought him on to eventing, in which he has really excelled. Among her many duties, Watson is the assistant trainer and work rider for Paddy Curry, Jack Clark’s point-to-pointer, who won at the Berwickshire point-to-point at the end of March.
