“It is an honour to again be president and I am looking forward to the new season,” he told the eager gathering.

“I’m hopeful we can have a successful one after the disappointment of relegation from the first division last year.”

The first club competition, the Charters Mixed Pairs, takes place on Sunday and starts at 1pm.

The final league standings for the indoor league were: 1, Ettrick Forest 34 points; 2, Yarrow Cats 30; 3, Ladies 27; 4, Leafers 23; 5, Merchant Co Select 22; 6, Neverwillbees 17; 7, Merchant Co Newbies 13.

Selkirk Bowling Club also opened its green on Saturday with president Billy Laidlaw welcoming members to the new season.
