Hundred-yard challenge

THE York round must rank as one of the most soul-destroying in the list of BL-BS shoots, but that is what the Ettrick Forest men had to endure on Sunday.

With six dozen arrows at 100 yards, four dozen at 80 and two dozen at 60, each stage is incredibly tough, really tough, and all too brief – in that order.

Yet Mike Pearson seemed to enjoy it, taking top score by some distance.

The ladies and juniors did not have quite so far to send their arrows, but they had the same amount to shoot in the Double National round. This consists of two rounds each of four dozen at 60 yards and two dozen at 50 yards. Mike’s wife Elaine was the runaway winner, but there was a cracking battle between the two newbies, Ev Craig and junior Sam Mackay, and at the end of proceedings, there was only one arrow in it.

This Sunday sees members shoot for the monthly club clout competition. Shooting starts at noon.
