Kelso HC 2 Livingston Ladies 3

East Hockey League Premier Division

Kelso ladies showed great resistance and pressure in the first half with of this Premier League clash before tiring in the latter stages.

Home goalie Becky Gibson made a great save at a defending penalty-corner but early Kelso pressure was to no avail and the visitors broke the deadlock through a fast paced attack and strike that was deflected off the unfortunate keeper’s pads.

Both sides continued to press deep and create opportunities and Kelso were able to equal the score through a well executed phase of play. Laura McColm narrowly missed the goal, hitting the post but Captain, Evonne Jack was able to pounce on the deflection to make the half time score 1-1.

Kelso got off to an apprehensive start in the second period resulting in Livingston forcing an error which was converted to a penalty-corner and subsequent second goal.

Midway through the second half Livingston were awarded a penalty stroke due to a Kelso foul and Gibson, once again, proved her worth by saving the stroke. Given that this was Gibson’s first experience of a penalty stroke she managed to hold her nerve and focus on the task in hand.

Kelso pushed forward with excellent linking play from Suzanne Henry and continued with grit and purpose, intent and in search of a comeback. After a tussle in the Livingston defending circle Jack was able to push the ball over the scoring line equaling the score at 2-2.

The equal score line was short lived when Livingston were awarded a penalty corner to which they pushed the ball past a tiring Kelso defence.
