GALASHIELS timidly bowed out of the Border U13 Knockout Cup, going down to Hawick by 32 runs at Meigle Park.
Batting first, the Teries made a cautious start against Legge, Brand and Jack Halls. But Johnston and Alexander stayed in and took advantage of the bowling changes – plus some assistance from extras – to build a solid total of 88 on a damp pitch.
The Hawick pair also opened the bowling for the visitors and were instrumental in pressuring the Gala batsmen early on with tight opening spells.
The homesters only lost four wickets in the run chase, but were always well behind the run rate against a much more consistent bowling – and an enthusiastic and alert fielding – side.
Meanwhile, Gala’s under-15s defeated their St Boswells counterparts on Monday evening to make it through to the final of the Borders Colts KO Cup.
The Villagers could only make 65 for 8 from their 20 overs, thanks to 23 from Fletcher and 15 from Ruthven.
Josh Irvine led the reply with 36 not out as Gala reached their target in the 11th over.
