SCOTTISH YOUTH CUP

Peebles Under-13s began this season’s Youth Cup campaign with a comfortable win over Edinburgh’s Holyrood club.

Playing away from home, the Borderers looked in control from the start, with strong midcourt attack led by the feisty Kerri Dow.

Going into the second quarter, the Peebles outfit was already 7-0 ahead, when shooting duo Alana Craigmile and Lauren Neville hit top form, between them securing eight of their nine attempts on goal to take their lead to 15-1 by half-time.

Despite the many substitutions to give all players a run out, the standard was maintained into the second half, with some inspired play from captain Gemma Gass, finding her form in defence after a shift from the shooting position in recent weeks.

Going into the final 10 minutes with Peebles in the lead by 24-1, the outcome was a foregone conclusion, but the squad maintained its organisation and drive to the final whistle, delighted to run out easy victors.

This year’s squad is the largest yet, with the Semichem-sponsored club fielding the maximum permissible 12 players from as far afield as West Linton to Melrose.

The team faces the challenge of emulating their predecessors who lifted the Youth Cup title for Peebles last year.
