HAWICK hosted Langholm on Friday night in a game which would see the winner progress into the 20/20 Cup semi-finals.
Home skipper Phil Mactaggart chose to field first and Langholm made a steady start until Euan Wilson was ran out by Craig Macdougall. Neil Storey was next to pick up a wicket, having Andrew Bell caught by Greg Baillie for 12. Jason Hall played onto his stumps which gave Baillie his first wicket and left Langholm on 29-3 after 7.2 overs.
Jack Pool looked to score quickly but his luck ran out when Mactaggart threw in a direct hit from the boundary.
Hawick continued in this vein of sharp fielding when Rory Anderson took his first 1st XI catch off the bowling of Benny Hartop.
Things were to get better for the hosts as Macdougall removed danger man Duncan Elliot for eight and then picked up the wicket of David Little, Baillie taking his second catch of the match. The last wicket to fall was Steven Johnstone as he skied one off Allan Moffat, Phil Mactaggart taking the catch, leaving Langholm with 92-8 in their 20 overs.
Hawick got off to a bad start chasing down the Langholm total, both openers failing to trouble the scores.
However, a 49-run partnership between Hartop and Mactaggart saw the Teries get themselves back into the game before the latter was out for 34.
Hartop watched Storey score six before he was dismissed, bringing the experienced Moffat to the crease.
That duo saw Hawick home in the 18th, as Hartop finished on 41 not out and Moffat three.
