ON SUNDAY, the South Under-14 squad attended the mixed U14 Inter-district tournament at Strathallan School.
The girls were selected earlier this year by schools nominating S1/2 pupils to attend trials. The successful players have attended Monday evening training sessions since March to prepare.
They played against other districts, including Highlands, North, Midlands, East, West and South West, throughout the jam-packed day. They were slow out of the blocks, taking a few games to get into the swing of things, but gradually warmed up and started to display some excellent skills.
It was a tough day for the South defence with some very experienced and skilful players from all over Scotland attacking the goal. But they stayed strong and managed to feed some lovely balls to attacking players, leading to goals against South West, Midlands and North.
Goal scorers on the day included: Kate Thomson, Leia Mackinnon, Jane Lochrie, Morven Cawthorn and Jo Marr.
This was the first time South has entered teams into the tournament, under the management team of Debra Martin, Nicola Whellans and Mary Weir, which proved a good experience for the coaches and was a great development experience for the players.
Players will continue to train on Mondays to work on team and individual development needs.
