Gala storm to final place by demolishing sorry Selkirk ...

GALA secured their place in the Border 20/20 Cup Final by defeating Selkirk by an emphatic 10-wicket margin at a damp Meigle Park.

Selkirk made a solid start with a good opening partnership between John Everitt and Greg Fenton before two needless run-outs saw Everitt and Rory Banks depart in quick succession.

When Fenton was stumped by Duncan Millar off Grahame Ormiston the Selkirk innings lost all momentum, and it needed a good innings from Ranald Wilkie, ably supported by Ian Buckley and Mark Hislop at the end of the innings, to see the Souters up to 89 before Hislop was the third run-out victim of the innings in the final over.

In reply David Boland and Andrew McMenmey were in complete control, aided by some wayward bowling, with 19 wides in only 12 overs. Boland took the lead with a hard-hitting 52 not out, including six fours, while McMenemy blasted his second four in a knock of 21 to see Gala home by 10 wickets in the 13th over.
