Gala Harriers shine at Home Internationals

It’s not often that even one young Gala Harrier features on the home page of the Scottish Athletics website.

But this week two managed to book themselves into the prime place following outstanding performances in Ireland.

Following their recent selection for the Junior Home International Hill Running in Glendalough, County Wicklow, Thomas Otton and Gavin Bryson performed at their very best to help pull off a team gold for Scotland in the Under 16 Boys event.

Picturesque Glendalough under late summer skies on Saturday was the perfect setting for a pitch-perfect result, with Thomas finishing 3rd and Gavin 4th, and, with all four flying Scotsmen coming in the top six, the richly deserved team gold medal was theirs for the taking.

Louise Mercer, a one-time Gala Harrier now competing for Edinburgh University won her Under 19 girls’ event and helped her team to a silver medal. The combined efforts of all the Scottish squad ensured that the team came second overall in the British and Irish Championships. Many congratulations to all three for their contribution to this fantastic result.

The next event for the Harriers is the Loch Ness Marathon Festival on Sunday.
