A FIFTH consecutive victory for the first team has ensured a semi-final spot for St Boswells Tennis Club in the Winter League.
The team of Lynn Bruce, Lucy Tile, Lewis Armstrong and Adam Drummond maintained the first team’s unbeaten record following victory against Duns II at the weekend.
Both the men’s and women’s doubles matches finished 6-3 6-0, before Tile and Armstrong produced a solid display to win their mixed match 6-1 6-1. In the other mixed match, Bruce and Drummond started slowly before moving through the gears to win 6-4 6-2.
The already slim hope of the club getting both first and second teams into the semi-final of the early season competition was ended after Earlston secured a 3-1 overall win against the Villagers’ second team of Hilary Jackson, Janelle Arnott, Matt Tile and Charles Strang.
With the match tied at 1-1, both mixed matches went the distance, with Earlston sneaking match tie-break victories in both to take overall victory.
Despite some excellent performances, the second team’s record of two wins, two losses and one draw will not be enough to take them through to the semis, to be held on the first Sunday in April.
