In keeping with the season, Fjordhus Reivers Hockey Club went all festive on Saturday when holding an open family fun day at their Tweedbank base.

Making use of both the all-weather pitches and the indoor bowling club, the event incorporated fun hockey for all ages and abilities while raising funds for the club in the process.

Fjordhus coach Pippa Bell told The Southern: “Fjordhus Reivers prides itself on being a ‘family club’, and we wanted to close the first half of the season with an event to bring everyone together.

“The invitation was to enter teams or players, whether it be parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, and friends, and wear something Christmassy.

“The response was fantastic and on the day 100 people of all ages and abilities made up 14 teams who all enjoyed the experience of playing hockey and being involved in a team sport without having to worry about results.”

Throughout the morning and following the pitch session there were different stalls and refreshments available in the Bowling Club, which was kindly manned by club member volunteers. The ‘winter BBQ’ was an absolute winner with all grateful for the energy boost after a morning of exercise.

Four prizes were presented in the following categories:

Best Dressed Team – ‘The Teri Ankle-Bashers’

Best Celebration – ‘The Roaring Chestnuts’

Best on the pitch moment – ‘The Selkirk Snazzy Socks’

Best team to embrace the enthusiasm of the day – ‘The Ho Ho Ho’s’

Fjordhus Reivers would like to thank everyone for their generous support of the event, which raised an amazing £800. Special thanks must go to the organising committee of Janet Jack, Lindsey Forster, Lesley Bell, Jane Walker, Lawrence and Lisa Niven and Elena Lunn. Furthermore Fjordhus Reivers would like to extend their thanks to Fjordhus Construction LTD for their ever-present and continued sponsorship. Following the success of the day Reivers are looking to make it an annual event.

Fjordhus Reivers have a further fundraising event scheduled for this Saturday, when they will be bag packing in Asda, Galashiels from 10am-4pm.
